Drama & Volunteer Openings!

There was a little bit of drama over Saferides, but that has been sorted out. Until someone tries to pull a fast one on Saferides, we are still ok, and still operating. 

Its the second semester now, which means quite a lot of work. Still, because work means stress, and stress, for many students, means alcohol, we need more support form volunteers than ever. 

One night makes a difference, and we cannot stress this enough.

Support for Saferides!

We sent out a message on Facebook asking for opinions about Saferides from people who had used the service, had volunteered, or who support the program. This is what we got back so far:

Saferides saves lives. It's that simple. It allows people in dangerous situations to act safely - an option they would not have if Saferides were not performing its service. Helping to preserve Saferides means helping to preserve the lives of Los Gatos teens for years to come.

Plus the volunteers are pretty awesome people :)

I think that saferides is a good idea. No matter what kind of campaigns you start to try to prevent teens from drinking or whatever else, there are always going to be people who do it anyways. Saferides takes note of that. Even if the teen has been drinking or other, at least now he/she has an option of getting home that is much safer than the teen attempting to drive him/herself home. Viva Saferides!

I have volunteered for saferides and it is a wonderful part of the community. It provides a safe way for us teenagers to get home and allows our parents to know were safe.

El Gato Article and Other Issues

We have recently been featured in the latest issue of El Gato, the LGHS school newspaper. The article was brilliantly written and very accurate and can be found in the March 9th edition of the paper. 

Things have been rather hectic lately, and quite a few interesting things have popped up. 

For one thing, we got a call a week ago from students in Burlingame, who asked for a ride. When told that we don't take calls from places so far away, the students asked, "Then why did our school give us your number?" Needless to say, we had no answer. Maybe it's time Saferides operations were in every school district... =D

We have also had some problems with Saferides, and not due to lack of volunteers either. Due to these issues we will attending and speaking at the next A Place for Teens board meeting, at the Venue, at 7pm on the 16th of March. Like Saferides? Come show your support!

HELP! We need somebody! Help! Almost Anybody!

We need volunteers!

This is getting serious!!!
Poor Grant, our constant driver/adult volunteer, has to do Saferides every weekend (Yes, he does it out of the goodness of his heart. Thats right). He pays for his own gas, and everything. An unpaid employee. Totally unfair. Please help us out or we cannot continue the program. We are desperate!

Its that time of the week again. We NEED volunteers for Saferides.

As of 2:12 today we have had NO replies to the messeges we sent out. Please help us, we cannot run the program alone!

This Weekend!

Last weekend we had NO volunteers.
No teens.
No drivers.
No adults.

We were able to scrounge together a staff for Friday and Saturday consisting of us teens, siblings, siblings friends and of course, Grant, our one consistent volunteer.

We DO NOT want to have to do this again, as we have been forced to many times. It is exceedingly dejecting and stressful for everyone.


We will be operating Saferides this weekend and we NEED volunteers. Please help us out. Email us at lgsaferides@gmail.com or leave a comment. If you cannot volunteer this weekend, but are free another time, feel free to let us know, planing in advance is not a problem at all.

Volunteers Needed!!

Saferides, being a non-profit, volunteer run program, needs volunteers.
At the moment, it is four teenage girls (myself included) who are running this program. We volunteer our nights every weekend from 10pm-2am. We have one driver/adult who constantly helps out, almost every night, and this is the entirity of our volunteer base. Five people. Four people are needed to run Saferides each night.
1 Adult (for insurance reasons)
1 Driver (to provide the means of transportation)
2 Teens (to act as Navigators and Dispatchers)

You do not have to be able to drive to volunteer! If you are under 18 and wish to help out, you must sign a Permission and Consent form, and a Volunteer agreement form, which your parents must also sign.

We are trying to get these documents availiable on the site. We can also email the document to you if you wish.

Volunteering pays off! From volunteering at Saferides you can get:

1) Up to eight hours (double hours due to lack of volunteers) for one night (four hours) at saferides.
2) Sleep! Thats right, you can sleep, though one person must remain awake to answer calls.
3) Homework, knitting, book reading, and other hobbies done! Spend your four hours doing something productive!
4) A happy glow and a warm feeling in your heart knowing you may have saved someones life.
